Why was the May vote for the PTA election declared invalid? If the May vote was invalid, then how can the June re-vote be valid and legal? What changed or what was corrected?

How come there is no info regarding the school's SLT such who they are now and what positions or openings are there for next year?

Three members of the PTA Executive Board met to discuss this and other questions on Friday, May 23 with Mr. Larry Davis, District Family Advocate for District 4. With regard to the PTA election, Mr. Davis asked if we knew who had voted in the election. That is, did we know that only parents and teachers (as opposed to students, administration or staff members) had voted or whether anyone voted more than once. He also asked if we had physically segregated voters from nonvoters and made sure each voting member had signed the attendance sheet and received only one ballot.

We could only answer No to all of these questions as the voting at the May 13 PTA meeting was chaotic and delayed by a shortage of ballots. Mr. Davis instructed us that he did not even have to invalidate our election but that the election had invalidated itself. He further informed us that we were required to conduct a revote using the same ballot and nominations at our next PTA meeting. Additionally, he provided guidance as to how we should organize the election procedures and offered to make himself available to oversee our revote.

The current members of the MCSM SLT were posted on this site back on September 14, 2007 after they were elected by the membership. Subsequent to that date, one member resigned due to job-related time conflicts. A special election to fill that vacancy was posted on this site on October 17, 2007; I see in hindsight that the result of that election is not posted here although it was included in the November PTA meeting minutes.

Currently, the six elected parent members of the SLT are Nevis Almeida, Sherrand Hawker, Patricia Huggins, Rosalind Lee-Nelson, Don Redish, and Yolando Verona.

At the June 12 PTA meeting, we will be seeking to fill four SLT positions for 2008/2009 as per the decision reached by the PTA Executive Board at its last meeting. We are looking to hold two spots open until September to allow opportunity for incoming 9th Grade parents to run for those seats (in addition, of course, to any other parents who choose to run).
